Textured glass

Textured glass, slump glass, formed glass are the terms commonly used to describe this glass product. To texture, float glass is placed on to moulds that created in order to reproduce the required design. The glass is then fired in accordance with individually determined firing schedules.

The glass panel will have one smooth side but undulating while the side which was in contact with the surface of the mould has a textured finish.

By incorporating specialty coloured glasses into textural panels, an uce an endless variety can be produced, both in terms of vibrancy of colour and intricacy of design. With the use of these products, clients are discovering a huge scope to explore creativity in an architectural framework.

Fine, randomly occurring expansion and contraction markings and background stipple texture are inherent in the texturing process.
These markings are indicative of the handmade nature of the product

Uses

Textured glass has a better shading capacity than normal flat glass and will, therefore allow for a softer, less intense light to pass through. Textured glass can be used in any domestic or commercial application where standard float glass is used. From shower screens, doors, windows through to feature walls, partitions and signage

Sizes

Textured glass is available in 6mm, 10mm, 12mm, 15mm and 19mmm thick glass. Moondani kiln beds are 4.0m x 2.0m providing large scope to create a variety of panel sizes.

Textured glass has a finished tolerance of +/-3mm

Toughening

Safety codes require textured glass to be toughened when used in any area where human impact is a consideration.

Textured glass supplied by Moondani Glass Designs is in accordance with Australian Standards.

Colour

Colour can be introduced by the following methods;

By utilising glass that has a coloured tint throughout its thickness, i.e., grey, blue, green, bronze, etc

By utilising compatible coloured glasses that are fused together forming endless individual colour blends, textures and patterns. The results are colours of the highest quality and richest vibrancy. This may be utilised alone or incorporated within textural glass.

Applied colour is a cold painted application to the surface of the glass. A broad range of transparent and solid colours are possible with an exciting spectrum of metallic, mirror and lustre finishes.

Please note that the natural green hue of float glass may cause a slight variation to the selected colour.

Applied colour applications are not recommended for use in areas which are continually subjected to high levels of moisture, heat, traffic, weather and strong light.

Colour matching is available

Sandblasting

Float glass and textured glass can be sandblasted to give a frosted effect, create artwork or deep carved designs in glass. Sandblasting is achieved by abrasive material being applied to the glass surface under pressure.

Cleaning instructions

When cleaning glass use a soft, clean cloth with mild soap or glass cleaning solution. Never use abrasive cleaners, these will damage or scratch the glass
